Dr. Kevin Helling grew up in Casper, Wyoming, where he attended Natrona County High School. After high school, he went to Hastings College in Nebraska, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Dr. Helling then attended the University of Washington School of Medicine, graduating in 2007. Following medical school, he completed an Internship in General Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, followed by General Surgery residency at Stanford University. During residency at Stanford, Dr. Helling presented his research on advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques at local, regional, and national meetings. He also won several awards for laparoscopic surgical skills during his time as a resident.
Following residency, Dr. Helling completed a fellowship at Harvard Medical School-Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery. During his time in Boston, he served as a Clinical Instructor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.
After completion of his training in 2015, Dr. Helling returned to his hometown to join the surgeons at Wyoming Surgical Associates. He built the Bariatric Surgery program, which achieved national comprehensive accreditation by the MBSAQIP just over a year after he started. It is the only program in the state with this designation. He also continues to practice the full spectrum of General and Trauma Surgery.
Dr. Helling loves being back in Wyoming. “It has been an honor to return to my hometown to practice in the community that raised me.” He loves spending time with his wife and three wonderful children.
