Introducing LINX® Reflux Management System
Wyoming Surgical Associates is expanding access to advanced reflux treatment by introducing the LINX® Reflux Management System, a minimally invasive surgical option for patients with chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Wyoming Surgical Associates will be the only practice in Wyoming offering the LINX procedure, providing an in-state option for patients who may otherwise need to travel out of state for specialized care.
GERD is a common condition, affecting an estimated 20 percent of adults in the United States, according to national gastroenterology data. While the condition can occur at any age, research shows that GERD is more commonly diagnosed in adults over the age of 40, with prevalence increasing further in older age groups. At the same time, studies indicate that younger adults are also increasingly reporting reflux symptoms, underscoring the condition’s broad impact across age groups.
What is gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)?
GERD occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the esophagus due to a weakened or malfunctioning lower esophageal sphincter. This backflow can lead to ongoing symptoms such as heartburn, chest discomfort, regurgitation, and irritation of the esophageal lining.
For some patients, symptoms persist despite medication and lifestyle changes. Even when symptoms are managed with medication, long-term drug therapy is not always effective or desirable, leading some individuals to seek alternative treatment options.
What is LINX® Reflux Management System?
The LINX Reflux Management System was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in March 2012 as a surgical option for appropriately selected GERD patients.
At the center of this minimally invasive treatment is an implant designed to support the body’s natural reflux defense. The LINX system consists of a small, flexible ring of magnetic titanium beads that is placed around the lower esophageal sphincter. The device reinforces the natural reflux barrier while still allowing normal swallowing, eating, and drinking.
Compared to traditional anti-reflux surgeries, the LINX procedure does not permanently alter the stomach’s anatomy, and many patients experience shorter recovery times and preservation of natural function.
LINX Procedure at WSA
The procedure will be performed by Dr. Morrison, who completed specialized LINX training in January 2026.
Dr. Morrison shares, “We are excited to expand access to this advanced gastrointestinal procedure and offer a form of relief for people suffering from GERD. Our goal is to ensure patients can receive high-quality, innovative treatment without having to leave the state.”
Her training reflects our team’s commitment to continuing education and adopting innovative surgical technologies to better serve patients throughout the state. By introducing the LINX procedure, we can improve access to advanced care while keeping treatment closer to home.
